About Ballet
Ballet is an Italian porcelain in bright white, crossed by grey veining that carries a warm gold-brown edge where the veins widen. The pattern is a classic Calacatta layout — broad diagonal veins with pooled white between them — and the print quality is what you are paying for: at arm's length it is very hard to tell from marble.
It is a natural choice for a kitchen that wants a marble look on a working surface, and for full-height backsplashes and shower walls where a 12mm slab gives you a near-seamless run. Fabrication is where a thin Italian slab is made or ruined, which is why we cut it in our own shop rather than sending it out.

What is porcelain?
Porcelain slabs are fired at extremely high temperature, producing a surface that is highly resistant to heat, scratching, staining and UV fading. Large-format sizes mean fewer seams on islands and waterfall edges.
Ballet questions we get asked
What does 12mm mean for how the counter looks?
On its own, 12mm is a thin edge. In practice we miter the edge to build it out — commonly to 1 1/2in or 2in — so the finished top looks like solid stone. You choose the apparent thickness.
Is Italian porcelain worth the difference over other slabs?
What you are buying is print quality and consistency: more vein variation across the sheet and better color depth, so it looks less repetitive over a big kitchen. Come see a full slab next to another white and the difference is immediate.
Is porcelain strong enough at 12mm?
Yes, when it is fabricated and installed properly. Porcelain slabs are thin by design and are supported by the cabinet run or a substrate; the visible edge is usually mitered so it reads as a thicker top. Fabrication matters more with porcelain than with any other material, which is why we cut it in our own shop.
What edges can you do on Ballet?
Because the slab is thin, the standard approach is a mitered edge that folds the face down to whatever thickness you want — commonly 1 1/2in or 2in — so the counter looks solid. Simple eased and small radius edges are also available. We will show you finished samples in the showroom.
Can I put a hot pan on Ballet?
Yes. Porcelain is fired at extremely high temperature, so a hot pan will not scorch or discolor it the way it can quartz. We still suggest a trivet as a habit, mostly to protect the pan and the seam silicone.
Can Ballet be used on a shower wall or a fireplace?
Yes. Large-format porcelain is a favourite for shower walls, tub surrounds, fireplace faces and full-height backsplashes, because you get a near-seamless run and it handles heat and moisture without sealing.
