What is Quartz?

Quartz is a man-made material that combines natural resources and modern technology to create beautiful and durable products that resemble natural stone. In the manufacturing process, natural minerals are mined, ground up, mixed with resin, and blended with pigments. The resulting slabs consist of approximately 93% natural quartz and 7% resin. At Universal Stone, we offer a variety of stunning quartz slabs for you to choose from.

Quartz Countertops

By mixing natural minerals with resin, quartz countertops become incredibly strong and nearly impenetrable. These non-porous surfaces are easy to clean and require low maintenance, as they are resistant to stains and do not require annual resealing. However, it's important to note that quartz slabs are not heat resistant and should not have hot pots and pans placed directly on their surface, as it can cause burning or melting. Additionally, quartz countertops are not suitable for outdoor use.

During the manufacturing process, different pigments are added to quartz slabs to create a variety of colors and designs. This allows them to mimic the appearance of natural stones like marble and granite. While grey and white are popular choices, the color options are endless, ranging from fiery red to cobalt blue. One of the advantages of quartz is its pattern consistency, as opposed to natural stone where patterns and veining vary due to being directly cut from the Earth. With quartz countertops, you can expect a predictable and even pattern throughout.

Quartz countertops have gained popularity in the market due to their versatility, cost-effectiveness, and beauty. Universal Stone offers a wide selection of quartz slabs at our two showrooms. Our knowledgeable staff is dedicated to guiding you through the selection process and providing any assistance you need. We take pride in providing Charlotte residents with high-quality materials for many years.
