About Calacatta Dorato
Calacatta Dorato is an Italian porcelain in a clean white with grey veining that carries a distinct gold line through the middle of the wider veins. It is the traditional Calacatta Oro look — the version most people picture when they say they want a marble kitchen.
The gold is the point: it warms the whole slab and ties a room together with brass or champagne bronze hardware, warm wood and cream cabinetry. This page notes the finish is available in Naturale honed or polished, so you can choose between a soft matte face and a reflective one — worth seeing both, because the gold reads differently in each.

What is porcelain?
Porcelain slabs are fired at extremely high temperature, producing a surface that is highly resistant to heat, scratching, staining and UV fading. Large-format sizes mean fewer seams on islands and waterfall edges.
Calacatta Dorato questions we get asked
Should I choose the honed or the polished finish?
Polished makes the gold and the white brighter and reflects more light; honed is softer, more matte and hides fingerprints better. Both are the same slab underneath, so it is purely how you want the room to feel. Ask us to show both.
Is this a good alternative to real Calacatta marble?
For a kitchen, yes, and it is the most common reason people choose it. Real Calacatta is porous and etches from lemon, vinegar and wine. This is non-porous, does not etch and never needs sealing.
Is porcelain strong enough at 12mm?
Yes, when it is fabricated and installed properly. Porcelain slabs are thin by design and are supported by the cabinet run or a substrate; the visible edge is usually mitered so it reads as a thicker top. Fabrication matters more with porcelain than with any other material, which is why we cut it in our own shop.
Can I put a hot pan on Calacatta Dorato?
Yes. Porcelain is fired at extremely high temperature, so a hot pan will not scorch or discolor it the way it can quartz. We still suggest a trivet as a habit, mostly to protect the pan and the seam silicone.
Does Calacatta Dorato need to be sealed?
No. There is nothing to seal on a porcelain slab, and no sealer, penetrant or topical treatment should be used on it. Warm water, a soft cloth and a mild soap is the whole routine.
