Carrara is the marble everyone pictures when they picture marble: a soft white-to-pale-grey Italian stone with fine, feathery grey veining running in gentle diagonals. It is quieter than Calacatta, with thinner veins and a cooler, more even background, which is why it reads as classic rather than dramatic.
Carrara is a genuinely soft stone, and it is at its best in baths, vanities, powder rooms, fireplace surrounds and baking stations rather than as the primary surface in a hard-working kitchen. Homeowners who love it in a kitchen usually accept that it will develop a patina of etches and marks over time, which many consider part of the appeal.

Not bad, but demanding. Carrara etches from lemon, wine and vinegar and can scratch. If you want the marble look with far less upkeep, ask us about Taj Mahal quartzite or a marble-look quartz.
Carrara has a cooler, greyer background with fine feathery veins. Calacatta is whiter with thicker, more dramatic golden or grey veining, and it is typically the more expensive of the two.
Honed hides etching much better because the surface is already matte, so it is the practical choice for anywhere near food or drink. Polished is brighter and better suited to vanities and fireplace surrounds.
Yes, and more often than granite or quartzite. Sealing slows staining but does not prevent etching, which is a chemical reaction with the stone rather than a stain.
