About Black Forest Leathered Granite

Black Forest is a black granite with bold white and grey veins that swirl and fold across the slab. This page features the leathered finish, which gives the surface a soft, textured feel and a low sheen instead of a mirror polish.

The leathered finish hides fingerprints, water spots and smudges far better than polished black stone, which makes it a practical way to get a dramatic dark countertop. It is a strong choice for islands, bars and outdoor kitchens.

What is granite?

Granite is one of the most popular materials due to its versatility, durability, and ease of maintenance. It can also be more affordable than other options. Granite comes in a striking array of colors and is an ideal choice for kitchen and bathroom countertops, outdoor projects, business applications, and other heavily used surfaces.

Black Forest Leathered Granite questions we get asked

What is a leathered finish?

Leathering brushes the surface so it has a subtle texture you can feel, with a soft satin look. It deepens the color, shows fewer fingerprints than polished stone and still wipes clean easily.

Is a leathered finish harder to clean?

Not really. Wipe with warm water and a pH-neutral cleaner. Because of the texture, oil can sit on the surface a little longer, so wipe up spills rather than letting them dry.

Does Black Forest Leathered need to be sealed?

Most granite benefits from a sealer, and we seal at install. Dark, dense granites absorb very little, so resealing is infrequent; the water-drop test once a year tells you if it is needed.

Can I put a hot pan on Black Forest Leathered?

Granite is one of the most heat-tolerant countertop materials, so an occasional hot pan will not hurt it. We still suggest a trivet as a habit to protect the sealer and the seams.

Can Black Forest Leathered be used outdoors?

Yes. Granite is UV stable and weathers well, which is why it is a favorite for outdoor kitchens and grill surrounds around Charlotte.
