Calacatta Bahia is a grey quartzite with strong diagonal movement: charcoal lines run across a grey and blue-grey field, broken up by cream and tan patches that give it warmth. It has the energy of a Calacatta but with a cooler, more natural palette.
The directional pattern makes layout important. Book-matched or run in one direction on an island, it looks like a single piece of rock; cut without planning, the lines can fight each other at seams. We plan every cut on the slab with you before fabrication.

Quartzite is a natural stone that can mimic the look of marble while behaving more like granite. Its veining and bold patterns add elegance, and it is harder and more etch-resistant than marble.
Often, yes, when we have sequential slabs from the same block. Book-matching mirrors the pattern across a seam and suits a directional stone like this. Ask us to check the sequence numbers on the slabs in stock.
White, warm white and natural wood bring out the cream patches; slate blue and charcoal lean into the cooler lines. Very busy tile will compete with the stone, so keep the backsplash simple.
Yes, we recommend it. Quartzite is dense, but it is still a natural stone, so we seal it at install. A quick check once a year tells you when to reseal: if a few drops of water darken the stone within a few minutes, it is time.
Yes. Quartzite is harder than marble and far less prone to scratching and etching, which is why it is the go-to for people who love the look of marble but cook a lot. It still needs sealing and reasonable care.
Natural stone arrives in different sizes with every block, so we do not publish a figure. Call (704) 394-1221 and we will tell you what is on the rack today and whether it covers your island in one piece.
