About Mercury Grey

Mercury Grey is a silver-grey quartzite with layered horizontal striations in lighter and darker grey. The movement is strong but tonal, so it looks sophisticated rather than busy.

A grey quartzite like this works in both modern and transitional kitchens, and it hides daily crumbs and water marks well. It pairs cleanly with white, charcoal or walnut cabinetry and with stainless or black hardware.

What is quartzite?

Quartzite is a natural stone that can mimic the look of marble while behaving more like granite. Its veining and bold patterns add elegance, and it is harder and more etch-resistant than marble.

Mercury Grey questions we get asked

Is Mercury Grey warm or cool?

It is a cool grey with silver tones. Next to very warm cream cabinets it can look blue; it is at its best with white, grey, black or walnut.

Can the striations run vertically on a backsplash?

Yes. Turning the grain vertical on a full-height backsplash is a nice contrast to horizontal counters. We plan the cut with you so the pattern flows where it meets the counter.

Does Mercury Grey need to be sealed?

Yes, we recommend it. Quartzite is dense, but it is still a natural stone, so we seal it at install. A quick check once a year tells you when to reseal: if a few drops of water darken the stone within a few minutes, it is time.

Can Mercury Grey be used outdoors?

Generally, yes. Quartzite is UV stable and will not fade in the sun, so it can work for an outdoor kitchen or a bar. Keep it sealed, and talk to us about the finish, since a polished surface can be slick when wet.

What slab sizes and thicknesses do you have in Mercury Grey?

Natural stone arrives in different sizes with every block, so we do not publish a figure. Call (704) 394-1221 and we will tell you what is on the rack today and whether it covers your island in one piece.
